Last First Draft ("we", "us") is a writing application available at lastfirstdraft.com. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what happens to it. The short version: we collect only what the service needs to run, we don't sell your data, and your writing belongs to you.
Information we collect
- Account information. Your email address and password (stored as a secure hash), or your Google account email if you sign in with Google. You can also add an optional recovery email address.
- Your writing. The drafts, outlines, and notes you create are stored so you can access them from any device. They are private to your account — we do not read, share, or use your writing for anything other than providing the service.
- Billing information. Payments are processed by Stripe, who acts as the merchant of record. We never see or store your card details — we keep only your subscription status and plan.
- Usage and technical data. Standard server logs and error reports (through Google Cloud, where the app is hosted), and writing-activity statistics such as word counts and streaks that power the achievements feature.
- Support messages. If you contact us, we keep your message and email address so we can reply.
AI features
Some editing steps can suggest fixes for flagged sentences. When you request a suggestion, the flagged sentence is sent to Anthropic's API to generate it. These requests are processed under Anthropic's commercial terms, which do not permit using your content to train their models. Sentences are only sent when you use the feature — your manuscript is never sent wholesale.
How we use your information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the service.
- To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- To process subscription payments through Stripe.
- To respond to support requests.
- To send transactional email (password resets, email-change and recovery-email confirmations). We do not send marketing email.
Who we share it with
We share data only with the service providers that run the app: Supabase (database and authentication), Google Cloud (hosting and error reporting), Stripe (payments), Resend (transactional and support email), and Anthropic (AI suggestions, as described above). Each receives only what it needs for its role. We do not sell personal information or share it with advertisers.
Cookies
We use only essential cookies — the ones that keep you signed in and remember your session. There are no advertising or analytics cookies. See Cookie settings for the full list.
Data retention and deletion
Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. If your subscription lapses, your account enters a read-only grace period so you can still access and export your writing. You can delete your account at any time from the Account page: deletion is scheduled with a 30-day window during which you can change your mind, after which your account and writing are permanently purged. Any active subscription is cancelled immediately when you schedule deletion.
Your rights
You can view and update your account details, export your writing (.docx or .pdf), and delete your account — all from within the app. Depending on where you live, you may have additional legal rights to access, correct, or erase your data; to exercise them, or for any other privacy question, contact us or email support@lastfirstdraft.com.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update this page and the date above. Continued use of the service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
